What You Can Do on this SiteWelcome to the Enterprise 2.0 Boston 2010 Call for Papers, powered by Spigit. Spigit integrates community, analytics and workflow to surface the top ideas, or session proposals in this case. The site offers several features that will help you stay on top of the session proposal process. They are described in more detail below. For quick reference, you can click these links to take you to a specific topic:
The proposal process will offer many more features and details than it has previously. Web Entry: Each session proposal is entered via a structured web form. If you click the submission link from a Technology Area overview page, the Technology Area is automatically chosen. Otherwise, select an area from the drop-down menu. You can embed links to supporting content (blog posts, SlideShare, etc.). You can also improve the findability of your proposal by tagging it. Please observe the 50 word maximum for session descriptions. And while graphics and video are supported, we prefer to read your text description. Similar Proposals: As you near completion of the proposal submission, the site will let you know if your proposed submission potentially matches other(s) already entered. This can be helpful to avoid duplication. On an ongoing basis, potentially similar submissions posted after your proposal will be visible in the right-hand column for each submission. Proposal Stats: Several items of data are presented. These include the number of views and what stage the proposal is in. Edit Submission: Session proposals can be edited by the proposal submitter. This allows you to adjust your proposal based on community feedback. The proposal edit link is on the right-hand side of your proposal. Editing will be disabled once the community at large can vote on submitted proposals in January 2010. Attach Document: You can attach documents to your proposals as additional support for them.
There are three ways you can share your feedback on the platform. Proposal Comments: Each submitted proposal has its own discussion forum. As you read a proposal, feel free to share your thoughts with the community through comments. Proposal submitters will be able to refine their submissions based on your feedback. Technology Area Comments: Each Technology Area (also called "Category") has its own forum. You can start a new thread by clicking the "post a thread" button on each Technology Area overview page. You can also respond to others on existing threads. These forums are great for feedback on categories, not individual submissions. Share your thoughts with the Enterprise 2.0 Conference. Proposal Voting: Members will be able to vote for each proposal. Voting is not available during the proposal submission phase. It will be turned on in January 2010 once the proposal submission period has closed.
As communities grow large, the ability to find content of specific interest to you becomes more important. You have a number of ways to find proposals matching your interests on the View All Proposals page: Standard Filters: The default filter for the page is to show you proposals based on their modification date. Modification criteria include proposal submissions, proposal edits and comments. The other standard filters are by Post Date and Author (alphabetical order). Filter Proposals By: These input boxes provide some of the most popular searches for ideas. You can view ideas by Category (aka Technology Areas). You may look for a specific proposal Author. To run this search, type the first three characters of someone's login name. Select from the auto-suggest list, and click 'Filter'. Finally, you can run keyword searches for ideas. Advanced Filters: In the Advanced Filters, additional search criteria can be specified. You can find proposals by stage, tags, proposal ID number, post date and session format. Search criteria can be combined as well.
An important aspect of making community work for you is the ability to stay on top of things that are of interest. You've got a number of ways to do that. Watch Proposal: Each submission has a 'watch proposal' button. If you click this button, you will receive email notifications for comments and changes to the proposal. If you want to stop the email notifications, you simply click 'unwatch'. Watch Technology Area: On the home page for each Technology Area (aka Category), there is a 'watch' button. Clicking that lets you receive emails notifications for all activity that occurs in that Technology Area: new proposal submissions, proposal edits, submission comments and category thread comments. RSS Feed for All Proposals: You can subscribe to a feed of all new proposals published to the platform. To do so, use the RSS icon available on your browser. In Internet Explorer, there will be an RSS icon on the toolbar. In Firefox, the RSS icon appears in the navigation toolbar, to the right of the page URL. RSS Feed for All Proposals in a Specific Technology Area: You may want to follow proposals for a specific Technology Area. To do so, go to a specific Technology Area, and find your browser's RSS icon. Clicking that will give you the Technology Area-specific feed of new proposals.
Part of community is sharing content with others. You can share a submitted proposal with your network on a wide variety of social sites: Twitter: Tweet a link to a specific proposal. The link will be shortened via bit.ly. It will also include the #e2conf hash tag. Facebook, LinkedIn: Share a proposed session with your network on Facebook or LinkedIn. Posterous: Got a Posterous account? You can post a proposed session on it. Yammer: If you use Yammer inside your company, you can share a proposed session with your colleagues. Dozens of others: In addition to these popular sites, you can share a proposed session on many other sites. Tell a Friend: You can also email links to session proposals with the Tell a Friend button included with each one.
Each community member has a profile page on the site. After you submit a proposal or make comments on one, others in the community may want to know more about you. The profile is your chance to describe yourself to others. It's also the pqage where you can track all your activities and those of your connections here. Profile: You can upload your avatar, and fill out a bio. You bio can include graphics and embedded videos. You can also include your contact information. Connect with others: On every user's page is a button that lets you request a connection. If you click this button on someone's profile page, that user will see a connection request on their profile page. Once the request is accepted, you will see that person's site activities listed on your profile page. Watch: An alternative to connecting with someone is to watch their activities. With this option, you can receive email notices for their activities. My Recent Activity: Every action you take on the site will be listed on your profile page under My Recent Activity.
The feedback of the community will be the primary criteria for selecting the sessions for Boston 2010. In addition to the wisdom of the crowd, creation of a balanced program for the different Technology Areas will be considered. There are three stages defining the selection process: Proposal Collection: This is the opening stage. All proposals start in this stage. Community Validation: This is the second stage. Proposals will advance here when they achieve a certain levels of community feedback and approval. Selected Proposals: This will be the final stage. Proposals that make it here are those will be part of the 2010 session tracks. Advancing here is based on community feedback and the approval of members of the Enterprise 2.0 Conference Advisory Board.
