Session Description

CIO surveys show that Enterprise 2.0 technologies  are high on Enterprise IT priorities.
However, a recent survey of CIOs by the E2.0 Adoption council shows that over 80% of CIOs have not been able to establish an ROI for E2.0 technologies. This is reflected in the widely varying pricing models of most E2.0 vendors, ranging from $3 per user to 100's of thousands of dollars for enterprise licenses. Value based pricing for E2.0 software requires a clear ROI measure. Contrast that with existing spend on E1.0 technologies in the enterprise, where clear value is reflected in healthy IT budgets.
In this panel, moderated by Dion Hinchcliffe (ZDnet's Enterprise 2.0 Blog),  CEOs of some of the most innovative  E2.0 technology companies  discuss the case for establishing clear ROI. Joining the panel to bring in an analyst perspective is Carol Rozwell, VP and Distinguished Analyst for Social software and collaboration at Gartner.

Lots of ROI proposed talks, but this one looks promising.  Dion moderating it means it will be comprehensive.  The panelist seem pretty good across vendors, and analysts.  -J

Getting to the ROI of any technology/application has to be a consideration for the enterprises implementing a solution. Glad to see that Twiki and panel are taking a proactive step to raise the ROI element.

ROI calculation for something as fluid as E 2.0 technologies has to be formalized in to some extent. The CIO's attending this session should situp, listen, and get reactionary.

CFO's rule the roost and they are always looing for an ROI on everything these days. While Social Technology is important, everyone involved with an Enterprise 2.0 project better be able to calculate the ROI to a CFO's satisfaction. This should be a great topic.

@Don McSimmons  ROI calculation is hard enough for traditional software.  Getting ROI analysis into E2.0 purchase decision making is a next big step.  However, there are many E2.0 vendors that will trojan horse their way in.  Should CIO's stop that?
